Nine ways to live a jubilee life
- Pray daily. Use personal prayer, the scriptures, meditation, and spiritual reading. Make prayers of praise and petition a regular part of your prayer life. Consider making a retreat or a pilgrimage this year.
- Practice forgiveness. On a regular basis examine your conscience and celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation. What changes do I need to make in my life? Whom do I need to forgive? Where do I need forgiveness? From whom? Also, make a resolution to participate in the sacrament of reconciliation as a family at parish penance services or other times.
- Celebrate the Eucharist. Actively participate in the eucharistic liturgy.
- Live a just life. Work against discrimination, racism, and oppression. Treat all people with the dignity they deserve as a son and daughter of God.
- Help the poor. Practice charity by assisting those living in poverty, who are in need of food, shelter, clothes, and jobs, and promote community-based solutions to the causes of injustice and poverty.
- Be a domestic church. Family is the domestic church. No matter what type of family you belong to-and everyone belongs to a family-nurture the love within it. Make time for each other-for those you love and who love you. Practice not taking these people for granted. Pray and work together as a family. Be considerate of those who are part of your extended family or the larger family of God.
- Share faith. Talk about God's presence in your life with other people. The more you do this the easier it becomes. Be an evangelizer, someone who has zeal for life rooted in the Gospel and is willing to share it in dialogue, mutually and freely with others-friends, family, co-workers, even strangers.
- Join a small Christian community. Or form a community if one is not available to strengthen your faith and to receive support to live your faith.
- Know your faith. Make time to learn more about the teachings of the Church. Read and study the scriptures. Take advantage of adult education and formation opportunities offered by the diocese and parish. Especially during this time, study the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Set aside some time with family or friends to talk about the teachings of the Church and how they apply to daily life.
